Welcome to the world, little one! We had the pleasure of capturing this sweet baby boy’s first days in a lifestyle newborn photo session in Marin, near San Francisco. The session was held in the comfort of the family’s home, where the light was beautiful and bright. We used the large windows to create dreamy, timeless, light-filled images.
The baby boy slept the whole time, cuddled with his siblings. It was such a joy to watch the siblings interact and bond with their new brother. We were able to capture some of the baby’s first interactions with his siblings, which are memories that the family will treasure forever.
At only a few days old, the baby was the perfect age for a newborn photo session. His delicate features were accentuated by the soft and natural light that flooded the room. The white and neutral colors of the bedding and clothing also added to the timeless and classic look of the images.
We are so grateful to have been able to capture these precious moments for this family. A newborn photo session is the perfect way to commemorate this special time in your life and create lasting memories that you can cherish forever. Preparing for a successful lifestyle documentary newborn shoot in your home can seem daunting, especially if you live in a small space like many homes in the Bay Area. However, with a little preparation, you can create a beautiful and natural setting for your little one’s first photo shoot.
First and foremost, it is crucial to clear areas of clutter. This not only makes the space look more visually appealing, but it also allows the focus to be on the new addition to your family. A simple and uncluttered background can make all the difference in creating a timeless and beautiful image. You can achieve this by decluttering the room or using a neutral background to minimize distractions.
When it comes to bedding, it’s best to stick with white or light and neutral colors. These colors will not only complement your baby’s delicate features but also provide a clean and timeless look. Avoid using bold or bright colors as they can be distracting and take away from the natural beauty of your newborn.
Another important aspect of preparing for a newborn shoot is dressing your baby in simple clothing. Onsies or knitwear are perfect options as they allow your baby’s natural beauty to shine through. Avoid using large bows or accessories that can be distracting or take away from the natural and candid moments that are captured.
It’s also essential to allot enough time in each session for feeding and diapering. Newborns have their own schedule, and it’s important to respect that and work with it to ensure a successful and stress-free photo shoot. It’s also important to make sure that your baby is well-fed before our session.
I like to capture baby sleeping and swaddled first and then capture them awake toward the end of our session. This allows for a variety of images, and also gives the baby a chance to settle in and feel comfortable before we try to capture them awake.
Planning our session around the time of day where the light shines the brightest in the rooms we will be photographing in is also crucial. I recommend the master bedroom and the nursery as a good starting point. It isn’t necessary to shoot in a lot of rooms, and with a newborn, usually less is more. A lot of my sessions have taken place in one room. After all, we are there to capture the connection between newborn and family.
By following these tips, you will be well on your way to creating a beautiful and natural setting for your newborn’s first photo shoot in the comfort of your own home. Remember to keep it simple, uncluttered, and focused on the natural beauty of your little one.
